July Update: Mindfulblackdad.com refresh, Why do so many Nigerians study in the UK? And more.
Salama people! I hope you’re enjoying this unfeasibly warm summer here in the UK (and the US, I believe)! Funnily enough, I was struggling to handle the heat through most of June. But my ancestral memory has kicked-in and reminded me that I am actually an African with a physiology designed for the sun. Make sure to soak up these photons! In other news, I’ve got a wave of content to share with you which I hope will bring you some value and inspiration.
Mindfulblackdad.com
I created mindfulblackdad.com in 2024 but have neglected since. That’s changing now! I’ve posted several new articles recently including:
Is this why so many Nigerians study at UK universities?
A couple of weeks ago I published my video looking at the large number of Nigerian students in the UK. The video digs into data released in April 2025 by the Higher Education Statistics Agency entitled “Where do HE students come from?”
The first thing we saw is that Nigerians are by far the largest contingent among African students in UK Universities:
Overall, where do most foreign students come from?
Nigeria is the third most common country of origin among foreign domiciled students in the UK, behind India and China. And the data shows a spike in arrivals from Nigeria, Pakistan and especially India since 2020:
This mirrors a similar spike in people arriving on Care Work visas in that time as we covered in a previous video study.
It’s a huge irony that immigration levels spiked just as the UK left the European Union! I think the UK is gradually becoming more and more dependent on its former colonies for what you might call human capital. The video goes into several other dynamics including the fact that many universities in the UK would face financial oblivion without international students.
Hope you enjoy the video. I’ve posted a two other videos in the last few weeks too - check them out below.
I’ll be back in due course with more. For now, take care and I’ll see you for the next update.
Peace
Ely
